A few years ago when I was living in Berlin I went to an exhibition of photographs that had been discovered, after the wall came down, in the STASI (East German State Police) archives. The photographs had been taken by the East German border guards. I was allowed to photograph the images, which I believe are in the public domain, and using the old map references on the images, plus Katharina's knowledge of the city, we were able to take new images from where the guard had stood decades previously.
I then made the composite "before & after" images that you see here. It is an unfinished project which, alas, will remain unfinished.
